Module 9 Hand Drawings

1) It wasn’t that bad. It was hard at times to keep my hand straight and not shake or move it all the time.

2) I decided to use pencil because knowing I wouldn’t be able to keep my hand steady I thought it would be a lot easier to use pencil over charcoal.

3) It was very hard. In my drawings I think you can clearly tell which one is my strong hand and with one is my dominant. Its very hard to use your non-dominant hand for something you are not use too.

4) My drawings aren’t great drawings but I think they are successful studies. My hands have a lot of similarities but in my drawings you can tell which hand is my strong hand. In the drawing of my right hand you can tell I pressed a little harder with the non-dominant hand and tried to compensate for that.

5) No I wouldn’t consider using my dominant hand. I feel like a new born trying to draw or write for the first time. I guess if I really tried I could get better at it but as of now I am pretty bad and I think I should stick to just using my dominant hand.

Module 9: Video Review

1) I chose Leonardo da Vinci: The Mind of Renaissance and The drawings of Michelangelo. I choose these videos because of all the artists named in the video titles I enjoy and have heard the most about these two so I thought there videos would be the most interesting.

2) I didn’t know that Michelangelo compared the way he worked so much to what he worked on. In the movie on Leonardo da Vinci I just learned a lot about his life and why he was considered the Renaissance Man.

3) Leonardo da Vinci’s life wasn’t as in detail in the text as it was in the video. Michelangelo on the other hand his techniques and drawings were talked about in both the text and video.

4) I enjoyed both films and they added great depth to understanding the text. The Michelangelo video talked about a lot of the same things as the text but in the Leonardo da Vinci videos they went into a lot more depth on his life witch I enjoyed hearing about.

Module 8 Videos

1) The videos that I picker where Cataclysm: The Black Death Visits Tuscany, Late Gothic Art and Architecture: England, and More Human Than Human. I chose More Human Than Human because we had to the other two because they are both things I am interested in, Tuscany being in Italy and then also architecture.

2) More Human Than Human: I found it interesting when they mentioned how the human min chose images that they liked and were interested in.
Cataclysm: The Black Death Visits Tuscany: I had never heard before about the plague that went from China to Europe and ended up taking out half of Europes population in 1348.
Late Gothic Art and Architecture: What I learned and also found interesting was things like jewelry, sculptures, manuscripts, and structures that were all considered a form of art in that time period.

3) The videos relate to the readings very well. They do so by talking about a lot of the same things that the readings did but also going more in depth with what they were saying which made it easier to understand and relate to.

4) I enjoyed the videos. The went more in depth about the readings which was nice and as I said in question 3 it helped understand more about  what was in the readings after watching the videos.

Module 7 Videos

Architecture: The Science of Design

1) This video shows how high-rises are built so that they don’t fall. What I found interesting were all the factors that come together so that a high rise stays standing no matter what the elements are.

2) The video and the text both show that it is very important to have a strong foundation in architecture.

3) I enjoyed the video, before watching this I didn’t really know about the science of architecture and it helped me understand it a little bit.

4) I choose this video because I thought that it would be interesting to learn something about the science of architecture.

Classical Architecture

1) I learned that there are three types of Greek styles, Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian. Also two types of Roman styles, Tuscan and Composite.

2) This video talks about the same types of architecture like the Greek and Roman styles that where mentioned in both video and text.

3) I found watching and listening about Greek and Roman architecture was a lot more interesting and easier to understand than reading about it in the text.

4) I picked this video because by the title alone it seemed like it was going to be very similar to the Architecture: The Science of Design and I figured picking to similar videos would make them more enjoyable to watch and blog about.

Installation Art

1)
a. When an artist uses a space and the things in it as a single work of art. An artist asks you to be a part of the art work in some way.
b. Artist can use almost any material that they want. Whatever they think is goes with what they want to express.
c. Artist make installation art because it applies an interesting view. Installation art is a unique way to make the viewers think outside the box.
d. I liked Fireflies on the Water.  It was an installation that was designed for the viewers to enter their own imagination and thats what I found cool about it.

2)
a. There is no one piece of art I feel a connection with but I feel they were all different in there own way.
b. I want to use the self theme because I feel it would be pretty easy to express my self in an installation artwork.
c. I wanted to try an gather things that represent me and I wanted to put them together so you could see the types of things I like and what represents me.
d. This will be locater in my living room.

     This Blog

5) This blog is just of bunch of things that describes me as a person. The things I like, the things I like to do, and the things that are just me as a person.

6) I enjoyed creating this peace. I like this type of art, you can put whatever you want whatever you want in it as long as there is a meaning behind it and in this case it was very easy for me to do that and I also really enjoyed myself while doing it.

Sculpting, Ceramics and Art

1) There are many different textures in which you can do scuplture. All types of stone or rock, clay and wood. Sculpting takes time and precision along with a lot of discipline in order to get it done. Glass is everywhere, the glasses you wear, the glass you drink out of, and the glass of your windows at home or in your car. Ceramics can be used for everything. I never knew that ceramics were used in medical procedures in prosthetics. In the Installation Art video they asked several people what there definition of Installation Art was. Each person had a different answer. Each person said something different but what I gathered from them was that its art that takes up space rather than a two dimensional piece when drawing. I found this very interesting and actually quite cool and very unique.

2) The videos relate to the readings because they both show the many ways to do each form of art. Sculpting can be done with many different forms of material, glass cane be made into hundreds and hundreds of things and Installation Art is just a very unique and different form of art a lot of artists art starting to use.

3) I enjoyed the films. They helped me understand each topic more. I never realized there was so many different materials that could be used when sculpting, and the thought of Installation Art seems really cool and I think I would actually like to see more of that form in person.

Peer Review

1. Brittany - http://brittanydouglas2.blogspot.com

Seaman - http://jonseaman18.blogspot.com

2. I did agree with the elements that they choose for there pictures. Of course in some photos there are more than one element or principle but I feel they both chose the appropriate one for this project.

3. In Project #2 neither of use had the same images and it doesn't surprise me. We all have different things that we like so maybe we just didn't like the same works of art.

4. Not so much. There where some images that I thought were ok but for the most part I liked the images that I chose.

5. I like it because you get to see how your doing from the people in your class and you get to here there opinion and the things that they like whether they be the same or different as my self.

6. Yes. I found all the comments helpful because whether they are good or bad it lets me know where I stand and how I am doing on these projects.
